{"id":8636,"date":"2022-07-05T15:54:24","date_gmt":"2022-07-05T15:54:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/monkey-forest.com\/?p=8636"},"modified":"2022-07-27T09:12:42","modified_gmt":"2022-07-27T09:12:42","slug":"baby-monkey-update-baby-sitting-commences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/monkey-forest.com\/baby-monkey-update-baby-sitting-commences\/","title":{"rendered":"Baby Monkey Update: Babysitting commences!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last month <a href=\"https:\/\/monkey-forest.com\/breaking-news-monkey-forest-celebrates-the-births-of-six-baby-barbary-macaque-monkeys-2\/\">we confirmed the arrival of SIX baby Barbary macaques<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Baby monkey season is such an amazing time of year as we get to see some beautiful natural behaviours exhibited by our Barbary macaques as well as welcome some adorable additions to our monkey sanctuary.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A lovely, wholesome behaviour that we are already seeing throughout the forest is &#8216;Baby Sitting&#8217;. A firm favourite amongst the guides during the late spring and early summer.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8638 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/monkey-forest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC_8537-1000x667.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/monkey-forest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC_8537-1000x667.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/monkey-forest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC_8537-1400x933.jpg 1400w, https:\/\/monkey-forest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC_8537-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/monkey-forest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC_8537-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/monkey-forest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC_8537-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Males carry, groom and protect babies sometimes from the first day of their lives, which is quite rare in primates. Males use babies as a social mediator to make friendly contact with other males within the group.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A male borrows a baby monkey from its mother and carries it to another male. The two males sit together and establish a friendly contact through the baby.
